Capabilities

Project Highlights

  • The mechanical systems include two air-cooled chillers, two condensing boilers, fourteen air handlers, 124 VAV boxes, multiple hydronic pumps, kitchen exhaust hoods, hundreds of plumbing fixtures, domestic water heaters, and storage tanks.

  • The design incorporated mechanical mezzanines that house eleven air handlers to serve the classrooms with conditioned air. Three other large air handlers that serve the common areas are located in various mechanical rooms throughout the school.

  • The project kicked off during the Covid-19 pandemic so controlling the material flow was critical for success. All piping systems were prefabricated at SPC fabrication shop in Winston-Salem to manage timely deliveries of material. All mechanical and plumbing system hangers were also prefabbed by SPC.

SPC was a pleasure to work with on the Herbert Akins Road Middle School project. Their attention to detail, efficiency, and ability to communicate with other trades was very much appreciated. Their level of effort during coordination and upfront planning was an asset to the project’s success, and the team’s dedication in the field to QC and making sure we achieved our milestones provided proven results. We would be more than happy to have this crew on any of our projects.
